PRE- & POST-RUN STRETCHING

The key to a successful run is a successful warm-up. In addition to maintaining a good posture, you need to have flexibility in your muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments, which can only be achieved through regular stretching. Put on your headphones and get your warm-up started!

Stand up straight, bending your right knee and lifting your foot towards your bum. Hold for 20 seconds, before switching legs.

Kneel down on your right kee, placing your right hand on top of your left knee. Look over your left shoulder for a good side stretch. Hold for 20 seconds, before switching legs.

Kneel down on your right knee again, stretching your left one out in front of you. Try to grab your left foot with your left hand. Hold for 20 seconds, before switching legs.

Return to a standing position, placing your left leg straight behind you and bending your right leg in front of you. Place both hands on top of your right thigh and lean slightly for ward. Hold for 20 seconds, before switching legs.

Kneel down on your right knee again, stretching your left one out in front of you. Try to grab your left foot with your left hand. Hold for 20 seconds, before switching legs.

    WHAT TO EAT BEFORE & AFTER A RUN

    Fuel up the right way before and after your run with our best workout snacks. Before you head out on the track, carbs are your BFF. Opt for whole wheat toast with a sliced banana and cinnamon. Short on time? You could also make yourself a fruit smoothie, using Greek yogurt and granola for a thicker consistency.

    Once you've sweated it out, dig into a piece of fresh salmon (helps reduce in ammation and regulate insulin levels) with baked slices of sweet potato to restore glycogen levels. Alternatively, you could just sip on some chocolate milk, which has all the carbs and protein you need for muscle recovery. Yum!

    Important to know

    Before running becomes a routine, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. In order to reach your goals, you first need to find your "inner reason" (i.e. the real reason you want to become a runner).
    Another thing to bear in mind is that progress isn't linear. It's natural for your results to vary, so don't give up the fight! Learn to give yourself time, rest and never compare yourself to others.
    Above all, have fun. Create a playlist that motivates you to get going. Remember, you're always one step closer to your goal!
